Post by Metamorphosis » Wed Dec 04, am Both of them misunderstand the character on a fundamental level, but I think Queseda just mostly wanted to see the unmarried version of Peter Parker that he grew up with, and surrounded himself with a bunch of loudmouths that agreed with him. Despite what he says to the contrary, there was scant evidence that he even likes Peter Parker. Peter had to be Tony Stark and invent a new super-suit for every challenge.
Peter had to lead the Avengers. When Peter returned, he was sidelined in favor of Silk. Queseda writes Peter like an idiot, but seems to like the character. Gonna have to go with slott on this. If I'm going to be a bit controversial here, I don't think he had a bad tenure as EiC, a lot of things that came out when he was around pretty much made Marvel what it is today, and I doubt we would have got a lot of that stuff if he wasn't EiC.
Saying that, OMD is kind of a massive stain that he and Marvel was never able to fully shake off, and only now do they seem to be making amends of it. If he allowed a more grounded take on the ending of the marriage, I feel it would have been an easier pill to swallow. But with the cancellation of Spider-Man 4, and the fact that they wanted to end the marriage for years at this point, it was more of a 'Do this quickly and move on' thing.
Slott on the other hand, I believe he does get the character, and he has proven to a few times. He has a deep love for Spider-Man, it was just an issue that he stopped caring and begun to really go crazy with his own ideas. If he stopped with Superior, it would have been a nice fitting ending. It closed a number of doors and left a few open for other writers to play around with.
Sadly he kept going, with Spider-verse being the only real notable arc from his run. Heck, his post Superior run betrays the ending of Superior. Overall, I don't think it's a fair comparison. Quesda was in a position of making money and doing what he felt was best for the company. He was in charge of a lot other properties with Spider-Man being just a small one on that pot I want to point out his attitude does kind of get to me however. Slott was a writer for 10 years and was allowed pretty much creative freedom.
He saw 2 film reboots, 2 new EiCs and a company wide reboot of sorts. Anything he had to say, he said a long time before he ended.
Giving Bendis the keys to Avengers for five years allowed him to pretty much redefine the franch Nise. And this is only speculation, but once Quesda left being EiC, that's the same time where Bendis fell. I believe Quesda or someone in Marvel at the time was keeping him in check. Unless he started to buy into his own hype. He was an Isaac Perlmutter loyalist so that means he ordered and mandated the kneecapping of the X-Men and the elevation of the Inhumans. Quesada had a different attitude he wanted the Marvel Universe a specific way with the Avengers at top and everyone else below, so under his reign, Avengers got extra spotlight and favor at the expense of other characters For instance Donny Cates said that at writer's retreats, Quesada's say-so was still important and valued in approving ideas and pitches.
On a day-to-day he might not have been EIC but his word was more final than that of EIC in terms of approving stories and so on. Feige becoming CCO and displacing Quesada to some made-up job title is the real game-changer. Because now Quesada while probably still influential is less so. True, he didn't feel like throwing away any IP's. But apparently what he wanted to do was replace practically every single character in Marvel with new legacy characters- new Spider-Man, new Iron Man, new Thor, new Captain America, everyone.
He was turned down, of course, and I believe the New Universe was done as a compromise. He was also incredibly unpopular with the staff. Jim Shooter never intended to replace all Marvel with new characters and so on. His idea of Newuniverse was simply an experiment to see if Marvel could recapture lightning-in-a-bottle with new characters and so on.
It was never Shooter's intention to throw existing IPs over. Shooter made friends and enemies both. Keep me logged in on this device Forgot your username or password? Don't have an account? Donomark 4 years ago 2. He was at one point. He will always be associated with one more day and he will always get hate for that till peter and mj are married again, which will never happen. Enclave 4 years ago 4. He's a hack. The commercial says that Church isn't for perfect people, I guess that's why I'm an atheist. Energist 4 years ago 5. I like his art. More or less indifferent to him personally, though. TomPettyIsGod 4 years ago 6. People have lightened up since he stopped making creative decisions.
Now it is Axel Alonso who gets most of our burning hatred. He did do a lot of good things for Marvel unfortunately all of that is over shadowed by One More Day so he is hated by most comics fan for ruining Spider-man. All it took was One Ba
